
Town info- The market town of Hexham, Northumberland with its population of an estimated 11,139 inhabitants, is located in north east England in Sovereign State of United Kingdom on 54. 97 Degrees North and 2. 10 Degrees West co-ordinates. Hexham is regarded one of the three largest towns in Tynedale region along with Haltwhistle and Prudhoe. Surrounding towns and villages include Riding Mill, Corbridge, Stocksfield, Wylam, Acomb, Bellingham, Allandale, Haydon Bridge and Bardon Mill.
Twinning- Hexham is twinned with Metzingen in Germany and Noyon in France.
Market days- Tuesday is market day in town, with farmers’ markets every second and fourth Saturday of the month. A total of 31 stalls offer the loveliest local delicacies, souvenirs and produce including fruit, veggies, cakes, pies, sweets, jams and meats.
Historical buildings- Historians will love a visit to Hexham with its exquisite selection of notable, historical buildings. Hexham Abbey can easily be regarded as the towns’ best known building. Built in early English Gothic style, the Abbey dates back to 1170 and is located on the west side of the towns’ market place. Another magnificent building with Grade 1 listing status also situated on the market places’ east side is Moot Hall. This 15th century gatehouse originally formed part of the towns’ defence and was used as a courthouse up until 1838.
