French Foreign Legion?

I honestly do not see what's so great about these soldiers. They claim to be the best, the most traditional, and I will give traditional, but it seems as if most of the battles they fought, were all lost? France in 1940, Din Bein Phu (SP?) In Vietnam, there is a mutiny own against de Gaulle, the Battle of Cameron, and the loss of legions own homeland, Algeria. Why military force, with such a disreputable sheet looked with reverence such?

Free French legionnaires are to be distinguished in many battles, even after the fall of France. So say they have lost most battles in this war would be an incorrect assumption. Everyone has lost most of their first battles in WW2 – the Soviets returned, the British surrendered, the French surrendered … and even the Americans went to the Philippines and Wake Island. Dien Bien Phu was mismanaged, whose loss had nothing to do with the people he defends. Despite being besieged and attacked on all sides, the defenders yet to establish a combat heavy and caused three times as many injured to the Viet Minh. A single regiment attempted the coup. Things have changed so that the soldiers are more loyal to France and the Legion instead of their commanders. Currently, the Legion has nine regiments. With the experience of the United States in Vietnam, it should be clear that the quality and quantity of your troops is useless if the guerrillas are ready to fight until you tired and leave. Algeria is no exception. That like it or not, the legionaries are trained as elite commandos. As for discipline, intensity, standards and quality their training is far beyond anything the military on average in any other country could experience. Few other units, such as Royal Marines get close. Parris Island has nothing on Castelnaudary 50 km marches pack, beatings and meals of bread and water.
